Jeepney: Character Rigs

Our last phase of pre-production draws to an end, marking one of our most unique quarters at SCAD. No one could have predicted this is how our experience in animation would have shifted, but we’re taking this opportunity to learn how to adapt and grow. As mentioned in a previous post, we’ve been hard at work creating character rigs. Our rigs are created by Denise Anger and tested by herself, Catriona DiNero , and Shaurese Foster . We wanted to create dynamic and expressive rigs that were easy to manage by our animators, but capable enough to capture all the character acting needed for the film. So far we’ve been thoroughly impressed by the dedication of our team and the amazing work that has been delivered. Jeepney: Background Painting

As we conclude phase 3 of pre-production for Jeepney, we’d like to take this opportunity to show some of our hard work.  Based in Manila, Philippines, Jeepney is a friendly cultural film about two of it’s colorful inhabitants. A jeepney, the namesake of the film, is a type of vehicle most commonly used locally as a form of mass transportation.  Domingo is a driver of one such Jeepney. Unfortunately, Domingo’s jeepney is rather bland in appearance, especially compared to the other beautifully painted trucks of his competitors. Unsure how else to drum up business, a young but poor art student, Analyn, approaches him with a solution. In exchange for free rides to school, Analyn offers her artistic talents to create a charming mural on the side of Domingo’s jeepney. A mutually beneficial friendship blooms between these two characters, as we’re reminded that all obstacles can be overcome with the help of friends.  For Pre-Production, we focused on creating some beautifully ...

Set in Manila, a struggling jeepney driver’s blank vehicle fails to stand out among the numerous other colorful jeepneys. Meanwhile, a poor and artistic student who cannot get to school pleads with drivers for a free ride. When they cross paths, the student takes advantage of her creative talent to strike a deal for their mutual benefit. Concept art created by director Lex Cooper and art director Ann Fry .
